Amarè comes out of one of Campania's oldest stills: Antica Distilleria Petrone, distilling in Mondragone since 1858, when Domenico Petrone built this recipe from herbs gathered in the royal gardens of the Reggia di Caserta for the Bourbon court. Five generations later the family still infuses it the same slow, natural way. Pour it after dinner alongside dark chocolate, dried fruit or roasted chestnuts — the classic Campanian way to close a meal — and let it do the quiet work a good amaro is supposed to do.
